AnchorsInstallation of Anchors

General

Each ETA for anchors requires that the installation shall by carried out by appropriately qualified personnel and under the
supervision of the person responsible for technical matters of the site. Details of the installation are given in the installation manual delivered with the anchor.

General information as basis for professional training and for the assessment of the personal qualification have been published by some states as national guidelines or standards:

  • France: draft pre-standard FD E 27-822 "Fixations — Guide pour le choix des chevilles"
The purpose of this document is to describe all types of fixings (with or without ETA) so that it can be referenced by other standardization groups for application standards (such as windows, suspended ceilings, etc.).
  • Germany: DIBt Information on the installation of anchor fastening
This document provides adequate explanations for designers and installers.
  • UK: BS 8539:2021 Code of practice for the selection and installation of post-installed anchors in concrete and masonry
This British Standard defines the way anchors for safety critical applications are used from the specification through to commissioning and in the process to improve the level of safety and eliminate failures.

Currently, this standard is under revision, see https://standardsdevelopment.bsigroup.com/projects/9025-11643.

Precise drill bits for reliable anchor installation - certified by PGM®

The strength and reliability of anchor fixings depends largely from the geometry of the drilling hole. Modern anchors can only perform excellent values in exact drilling holes.

For that reason the European Technical Assessments / Approvals (ETAs) for anchors contain clear tolerances for the masonry drills.

The inspection mark of the Prüfgemeinschaft Mauerbohrer (PGM®) is the proof for the suitability of the masonry drill bits. This mark is granted only to manufacturers under the following conditions:

  • state of the art manufacturing under use of a quality insurance system
  • yearly skip-lot inspections of the produced drill bits by independent institutes
  • state of the art social and environmental standards
  • periodical audits by an independent auditor specialised in drill bit manufacturing.
