Sustainability of constrcution fixings: General aspects

The share of the  mass and volume of construction fixings in relation to the whole building is relatively low.Therefore, their netto contribution to the carbon footprint of the building is neclectable.

But they can contribute significantly to the overall environmental performance of the building:

  • Service life of 50 years or more
  • Fixing of insulation systems without creating thermal bridges
  • Controlled dismantling of buildings.

For some construction fixings Environmental Products Declarations (EPDs) are available.

Under the new CPR, statements on the environmental performance of construction fixings based on harmonised standards or EADs will become mandatory. CFE is actively participating in the development of the basic principles for the evaluation of the environmental performance in EOTA and CEN.
